Course description
Current corporate administration requires technologies not omly to be highly advanced but also to aquire revenue and profit which will be invested to the next R&D.
This course utilizes lectures, case studies and group works to learn subject setting, solution process and all the other technology management skill. The following components will be discussed.
1. External (Macro /Micro)analysis, Internal analysis process
2. Overview and process of corporate vision, business strategy, technology strategy and marketing
3. Practical system and operation of the production
4. Overview and process of product design quality
5. Corporate innovation process
6. Subject setting, group discussion process and practice

The lecturer of this course has the firsthand experiences on tehcnology management in various corporates, and will describe actual examples from industry for case-studies, analyses and discussion. In addition, guest speakers from corporates of various marketing areas will join in the discussion to share their experiences.
Expected Learning
1. To understand the process of subject setting and solution planning
2. To learn how to lead effective conclusions by means of thinking, speaking and discussing self-motivatedly in the group work

Course schedule
1st day:
#1 Guidance of technology management: The structure of all lectures will be expalined and the positioning /inportance of technology management will be indicated. The history and recent condition of technology management will be explained.
#2 Corporate analysis framework: Such as PPM,l 3C, SWOT, VRIO, Anzof, 5F, Japan Management Quality Award, etc. will be explained.
#3 Case Study 1 Optical disc business: The history of CD, DVD, BD and recordable CD-R/DVD-R will be reviewed from the view point of technology management and analysed with major framework tools.

2nd day:
#4 Plannning and practice of technology management strategies: Overview, planning process of technology strategy, selection/ management, organization, considerable points of R&D projects and marketing will be indicated.
#5 Tech-venture and Innovation: Fund raising, human resources, organization, corporate collaboration of startups and incorporate ventures will be explained. Innovation of R&D and open innovation will be indicated.
#6 Organization and operation of production activities: procedures, considerable points and operation such as production control, quality control and supply chain control required for the new product from test production to mass production.

3rd day:
#7 Improvement of design quality 1 QFD: Overview of design quality which affects mostly to the problems in production and market will be explained. Quality Function Deployment(QFD) to set design specification will be explained and exercised.
#8 Improvement of design quality 2 TRIZ: Overview of engineering idea creation method TRIZ will be explained and exercised.
#9 Improvement of design quality 3 Quality Robust Engineering: Overview of quality problem prevention method Quality Robust Engineering will be explained and some cases will be studied.

4th day:
#10 Group presentation 1 Electric Vehicle: The potential huge market and technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.
#11 Group presentation 2 Mobile Communication Device: The market and technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.
#12 Group presentation 3 Kewpie Foods: The company will be analysed and its technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.

5th day:
#13 Group presentation 4 Reqenerative Medicine: The innovative medical market and technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.
#14 Group presentation 5 Renewable Energy: The environmental energy market and technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.
#15 Group presentation 6 Kao: The company will be analysed and its technological strategy will be reported by the researched group with five members.
Prerequisites
Each group decides the members' responsibility and research market trend, size, expecting technology, related companies and their strategies and plan an original strategy either for any virtual company to enter the market or for a certain real company to grow up with apx. 10 hours. 5 hours of preparation and group discussion will be also required.
In addition to 30 hours in the class and the activities described above, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University.

Assessment/Grading
Grades are given based 30 % on contribution during the classes, 30% on richness of daily reports and 40% on contribution/results of the group work .
