Course description |
The basic principles and techniques required for physics experiments is learned. The course includes basic concepts of measurements, accuracy of measurements, systems of units, standards, basic physics parameters, sample preparation technology, vacuum technology, and cryogenic technology and. These are the basics that are required in experiments performed by graduation research in the fourth year |
Expected Learning |
Students are expected to learn (1) concept of accuracy or uncertainty of measurements. (2) systems of units and measurement standards. (3) basics of sample preparation. (4) cryogenic technology, namely how to reach low temperature required for experiments below 4.2 K and how to measure temperatures. (5) vacuum technology, namely how to reach high (10-1~10-5 Pa) or ultrahigh vacuum (10-5~10-9 Pa) and how to measure low pressures. Based on the knowledge, students are expected to design and perform proper experiments. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps |
