Course description |
Participants will learn about stable isotope and radioactive isotope techniques effective for investigating biogeochemical cycling on the Earth's surface layer and aim to make use of those approaches in their own research. Furthermore, participants will conduct discussions through the reading & presentation of the isotopes papers related to their research. |
Expected Learning |
Students who successfully completed the course of this lecture, ― will understand that stable isotopes and radioactive isotopes are being effectively utilized in natural science, especially biogeochemical cycling research. ― are able to apply stable isotopes techniques to their own current and future research. ― are able to find relevant papers in English, read it, and give a lecture the contents to people in an easy-to-understand manner. Furthermore, it is required to make comments on other participants’ research and presentation. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma policy: See the curriculum maps. https://www.tuat.ac.jp/campuslife_career/campuslife/policy/ |
Course schedule |
1-3. Introduction of research by lecturer and class participants using ppt slide. 4-5. Classes on the basis of stable isotope and radioactive isotope 6-7. Class on isotope ecology 8-9. Class on isotope hydrology 10-11. Class on isotope biogeochemistry 12-15. Papers presentation and discussion on isotope studies related to studies of class participants (Depending on the number of participants and their study topics, 1 to 3 lectures will be conducted for each of the above contents) |
Prerequisites |
In addition to the school hours (30 hours), prepare and review the lecture referring to the distributed lecture materials and reference books. This lecture is related to classes such as “Earth Science”, “Geochemistry”, “Freshwater Environment Studies”, “Environmental Soil Science”, “Atmospheric Environmental Studies”, “Marine Environmental Studies”, and “Earth Environment Geology”., etc. in Undergraduate Classes |
Required Text(s) and Materials |
There is no text book, although it may be introduced during class as necessary. Supplementary documents will be distributed accordingly. |
References |
Reference book will be instructed as necessary during class. The information on the scientific paper being referenced will be shown in the lower right of the lecture slide. |
Assessment/Grading |
I will evaluate comprehensively from subjective participation attitude (70%) and presentation skills/contents(30%). |
Message from instructor(s) |
