Course description
Animal welfare is to consider the way of improving QOL of captive animals. This course set objective as follow; the comprehension of animal sense and behavior, and its roles in our human life, and the acquisition of knowledge for practice proper animal welfare.
Expected Learning
Understanding the concept of animal welfare and connectting the animal welfare to each academic discipline.

Course schedule
1) Learn the history and idea of animal welfare as Western origin concept. Think the state of animal welfare in Japan.
2) Comprehend the important attitude of taking each animal as individual. Learn the sense, normal and abnormal behavior, habit, and others of sentient animal at the position of comparative psychology.
3) Learn the practical animal welfare for livestock and zoo animal.

There need no special knowledge.

Final grading will constitute of 50% for class participation, and 50% for reports evaluation.
