Course description
This course provides graduate students with training of listening skills especially of academic lectures, as well as reading skills.
Expected Learning
At the end of the course, students are expected:
1. to be able to listen to lectures of 15 to 30 min and understand the contents
2. to be able to read and summarize English articles on topics in science and technology
3. to be able to explain their own research in English

1. Guidance, Introduction
2-4. Presentation and Discussion
5. Comparing the language of lecturing to the language of writing
Recognizing cues, paraphrase, repetition, exemplification, etc.
Key differences between the language of lecturing and the language of writing
6. Getting the main ideas using content and prediction
Predicting content and lecture direction
Using note-taking symbols and abbreviations
7. Differentiating between Numbers that sound similar,
Noting years and large numbers, fractions and decimals
8. Listening to lectures [1]

11-14. Presentation and Discussion
15. Wrap up
