Course description
As a required subject in the curriculum of applied physics, in this course, students will study semiconductor devices using the basic concepts of solid state physics. Then, application of semiconductor quantum devices is also studied.
Expected Learning
Students are expected to understand the basic concepts of semiconductor electronic and optical devices.

Course schedule
Week 1-2: Solid state physics (k-space, energy band, density of states and Fermi distribution)
Week 3-4: Semiconductor (carrier concentration distribution)
Week 5-6: pn junction, semiconcutor/metal interfaces
Week 7: Band engineering
Week 8: Photoresponse of semiconductor (absorption and emission)
Week 9-10: MOS transistors
Week 11: LED, semiconductor laser
Week 12-13: Quantum well structure
Week 14: Single-electron transistors
Week 15: Summary

Students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lecture, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.
