Course description
Cadmium accumulated in crops causes health problems in human, thus technologies to reduce cadmium in edible parts are required. While zinc is an essential mineral in human and its deficiency is widely prevailed in the world, thus the technologies to increase zinc in edible parts are required. In this class, mechanisms of Cd and Zn transport in plants and the regulations of their contents in edible parts will be lectured.
Expected Learning
Students are expected to learh the mechanisms of Cd and Zn transport in plants and wil be able to discuss about the methods to regulate thier accumulations in edible parts.

Course schedule
Prof. Shin-ichi Nakamura, Tokyo university of Agriculture will give you the following lectures.

1) Cadmium pollution in agricultural field and zinc deficiency in human in the world.
2) Mechanisms of Cd and Zn transport in plants.
3) Technologies to regulate the contents of Cd and Zn in edible parts in cropts
4) The molecular physiological mechanisms of 3).
Prerequisites
It is desirable the student learned basic Biology.
Students take the lecture, and are also recommend to prepare for and revise the lectures by using references and handouts, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University.

Assessment/Grading
We evaluate by attitude to the class (50%), and assignment (50%).
