Course description
Many kinds of macromolecular materials that have useful mechanical and thermal properties make our daily life comfortable. In this class, we will learn viscoelasticity and glass transition phenomena to understand characteristic mechanical and thermal properties of polymeric materials, which are never observed in low mass substances. Moreover, rubber elasticity, one of the most striking mechanical properties of macromolecules, is also discussed. This course is the most primitive fundamental of physical properties of macromolecules which are quite important in environmental and natural resource since.
Expected Learning
1) Understanding of basic theory of (linear) viscoelasticifty.
2) Understanding of genaral thermal properties of macromolecular materials.
3) Understanding of rubber elasticity.

Prerequisites
Fundamentals of mechanics and thermodynamics would be necessary. However, the essential knowledge will be provided when it is necessary. In addition to the 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references.
