Course description
Physical properties of wood and wood-based material, such as anisotripic characteristics, absorption and estraction of moisture, swelling and shrinkage, mechanical properies including strength and stiffness, viscoelastic property. Utilization of lumber and wood composite in wood structure and wooden housing.

1) Orientation. Density and moisture content of wood material.
2) Chemical properties and moisture of wood material.
3) Absorption and extraction behavior related to internal surface.
4) Swelling and shrinkage of wood.
5) Microstructure and anisotropic properties of wood (1).
6) Microstructure and anisotropic properties of wood (2).
7) Thermal properties of wood
8) Differences of physical property in wood species.
9) Mechanical properties and strength of wood material.
10) Mechanical testings for wood materials.
11) Viscoelasticity of wood and viscoelastic models.

15) Utilization and problems of timber from forest thinning

Prerequisites
This lecture is an elective subject, and is one of the specialized subjects.
Students need to preview and review for an amount of time as indicated in the student guidelines of TUAT, in addition to the attendance of lecture (30 hours).
