Course description
The purpose of this course is to lay the foundation for social research methods, such as surveys or interviewing, and consensus building methods that are indispensable to providing effective research and practical support to rural areas. The first half of the course is devoted to workshop methods that bring out the best in residents’ autonomy and identity to revitalize mountainous, agricultural areas in Japan.
The last half of the course involves exercises for Project Cycle management (PCM)workshop methods widely applied to the field of Official Development Assistance. Discussions will be held regarding advantages/characteristics and limitations of each aforementioned methodology.
Expected Learning
The students will understand advantages/characteristics and limitations of two methodologies intended for different purposes (e.g., identifying problems or providing a solution for a problem) through exercises and discussions.
