The course introduces you to basic German vocabulary and grammar. You will learn the laws of grammar, read and speak easy sentences, translate them into Japanese and write brief responses in German. After passing the final exam you are entitled to obtain a credit. Native speakers of German are not permitted to register for this course. This course is offered as the first part of the two-part German language course of the Global Language and Cultural Studies. |

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. exchange daily greetings 2. pronounce words correctly 3. read simple sentences in the present tense with the aid of a dictionary 4. have images of foreign languages and cultures other than those of English-speaking countries. Week1: Course guidance. German alphabet. Week2: Pronunciation 1. Week3: Pronunciation 2. Personal pronouns in the nominative. Week4: Conjugation of verbs in the present tense 1. Week5: Conjugation of verbs in the present tense 2. Week6: Gender, number and case of nouns. Definite and indefinite articles. Week7: Imperative. Negative sentences and interrogative sentences. Week8: Declension of personal pronouns. Cardinal numbers. Week9: Declension of nouns in the singular and in the plural. Week10:Demonstrative adjectives, indefinite adjectives, possessive adjectives etc. Week11: Modal auxiliaries. Week12: Prepositions 1. Week13: Prepositions 2. Three principal parts of verbs. Week14: Conjugation of verbs in the past tense. Week15: Summary Final exam. |

This course carries 1 credits. Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes in preparing for each class, and another 45 minutes in completing assignments and revising the class. |

| Assessment/Grading |
|
The grade evaluation in this online class is premised on all attendances, and comprehensively evaluates the attitude to learn, quizzes, report, and online tests. Standard study time set by the our university is required to get the grade. The rate of evaluation is as follows: Normal score: 15%, quizzes and assignment test: 15%, and final exam (online or paper ) test:70%. Grade will be given according to the following criteria by comprehensive evaluation: S: 90 points or more, A: 80 or more and less than 90 points, B: 70 or more and less than 80 points, C: 60 or more and less than 70 points. |
