Course description

Both the human body and Ecological environment are automatically-regulated systems and are interacted with one another. Good handling or management is important to maintain the system. This course provides fundamental knowledge of human physiological system interacting with various external environments.

Expected Learning

This course are designed to enable students to: 1. Define and describe the physiological functions of human body in various environment. 2. Following class will be scheduled. 1. Introduction: Bioclimate: changes in human living environment 2. Human sense 1.Cutaneous sense 3. Human sense 2.Visual and auditory senses 4. Human sense 3.Chemical (Taste and Smell) senses 5. Effects of thermal and sound environments on human senses 6. Nervous and muscular systems in human 7. Effects of gravity and air pressure on human senses 8. Summary Examination 1 9. Homeostasis in human 10. Biological rhythm in human 11. Stress system in human 12. Human adaptations against stress 13. Stress and emotion: emotional responses in human 14. Effects of 24-hour society on the human physiological system 15. Summary Examination 2

Prerequisites

This lecture is an elective subject, and is one of the specialized subjects. Students need to preview and review for an amount of time as indicated in the student guidelines of TUAT, in addition to the attendance of lecture (30 hours). Related course: Health and Amenities (Shimoda and Fukumoto)

Assessment/Grading

Examination 1 (50%) and 2 (50%): The exams will require writing short answers and short essays. ・Exam 1 50%：to assess basic knowledge and understanding on human senses ・Exam 2 50%：to assess basic knowledge and understanding on homeostasis and stress adaptation in humans
