Course description |
The objective of this course is to develop communication skills and to learn basic Kanji for everyday life in Japan. Students will be able to acquire everyday conversations and Japanese culture with a variety of multimedia materials. They also gain basic knowledge of Kanji and to learn how to use Kanji through various class activities. This course is offered to international students as a part of the Japanese language course of the Global Language and Cultural Studies. |

1. General knowledge of Kanji: four categories of Kanji, basic strokes, rules of stroke order, components of Kanji 2. Activities focusing on Pictographic characters, sign characters, ideographic characters 3.Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (time, price, days of week), Tasks to learn Kanji in daily life 4. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (campus life), Tasks to learn Kanji in daily life 5. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (applications), Using web-based tools and electronic dictionaries for searching Kanji 6. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (at the station), Presentation 7.Summary Mid-term Examination 8. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (food) 9. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (Verbs) 10. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (Adjectives) 11. Activities focusing on radicals, Rewriting short sentences using Kanji 12. Prerequisites |
This course carries 1 credit. In addition to 30 hours you spend in the class, and 10 hours in completing the essay task and presentation preparation, you are expected to prepare for, and review, the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class, using the handouts and the reference books specified below. |
