Course description
In this lecture, students learn the laws of intellectual property rights, including patent law. And students will also learn the practice of patent application, patent search and so on.
Text will be posted on Moodle for each lecture, so you do not need to prepare.
This course is offered as a course for 'Science, Technology and Society' in General Education curriculum, and given by the lecturer who has firsthand experiences on intelectural properties and patents at Japan Patent office. The lectures are designed based on examination and appeal examination of patent.
Expected Learning
(1) You can understand the outline of the intellectual property system such as patents.
(2) It is possible to learn how to use patent information useful for future research activities.
(3) It is possible to acquire basic practical ability such as preparation of patent application specifications.

6 How to make a description [1]: Matters that require attention at the time of the making of claims,a description, the drawing, specific example
7 How to make a description [2]: Claims being aware of the range of the Patent right
8 Novelty, Inventive step [1]: Judgment technique of Novelty and Inventive step, practice
9 Novelty, Inventive step [2]: Correspondence to a notice of refusal reason
10 Novelty, Inventive step [3]: Revision of the claims for the notice of refusal reason
11 Appeal system, Utility Model Law: Trial for patent invalidation, Trial for correction, Patent opposition, Utility Model Law

Prerequisites
In addition to 30 hours in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University.

Assessment/Grading
Grades are given based 60 % on interim report and final report, and 40 % on contribution and homework during the classes.
Unless you submit both the intermediate report and the final report, you can not acquire credits.
I will not test.
