Course description
In Organic Chemistry in Life Science I course, you will learn about fundamental concepts to understand structure and reactivity of organic molecules and their application to synthesis. This course aims to understand reactions of alkenes and alkynes and their application to multistep synthesis of various organic compounds.
In this course, basic concepts of stereoisomers, hybridization, resonance structures, acids and bases, nucleophiles and electrophiles, carbon-carbon multiple bonds are reviewed and structures and reactions of alkenes and alkynes, which are major functional groups of organic compounds and their application to multistep synthesis are addressed. In each lecture, home work is assigned which is related to the contents of the lecture. Through this course, you will learn about the molecular representation of organic molecules and the electron arrow pushing to understand the reaction.
Expected Learning
1) Understand nucleophilic substitution reactions and elimination reactions as fundamental organic reactions.
2) Understand the reactions of alkenes and their application to multistep organic synthesis.
3) Understand the reactions of alkynes and their application to multistep organic synthesis.

This subject corresponds to the viewpoint A of the diploma policy.
