Course description
A technologist should acquire the ethic not only as the individual, but also as a expert. In this class, we learn the issues of ethics about bio-technology with case studies and the ethic attitude that engineers should have systematically. The instructor is a professor with a career of a researcher in the company.
The 5th, 6th and 7th class are the special topic lectures on “Intellectual Property and Bioethics,” “Ownership of Human Materials” and “Biobank and Its Ethical Issues.”
Expected Learning
(1) To understand the ethics that engineers should have systematically
(2) To acquire ability to extract the issue of ethics to be inherent from the examples that occurred in the past
(3) To learn the technique to advance the research and development of chemistry, biotechnology and information processing field based on the engineer ethics
(4) To acquire basic knowledge of “Intellectual Property and Bioethics,” “Ownership of Human Materials” and “Biobank and Its Ethical Issues” and to express his/her own idea.

We use “A first course in engineering ethics” written by Y.Kitahara as a textbook
Additionally, print and bring a document uploaded in Moodle as a textbook accordingly, please.
As for the 5th to 7th class, the materials will be distributed at the beginning of the 5th class.

Assessment/Grading
Only students who attend the all of classes are evaluated. They are evaluated for the last report (90%) and attitude of study (10%) as five levels with S, A, B, C, and D.
