Course description
Physics and Chemistry are essential to understand and control natural phenomena. In this course, we examine several fundamental chemical phonomena. We learn methods for observation, measurements, analysis and logical interpretation of obtained data. In addition, by making a report that is required for each experimental topic, we learn fundamental rules to writing scientific reports.
Expected Learning
・Understanding of experimental methods and obtain data by yourself.実
・Understanding of observed phenomena with sufficient discussion or interpretation.
・Writing and submission of reports that summarize your experiments thoroughly.
Course schedule
Students are divided into several groups and all experiments are conducted in group units. In collaboration with "Undergraduate Laboratory in Applied Physics and Chemical Engineering II", topics in both chemistry and physics
are provided.

The below is an example of topics and schedule, but it can vary depending on your group.
(Detailed list of topics and course schedule for all groups will be announces in the 1st lecture.)
1st Introduction, precautions for safety and laboratory notebook.
2nd Organic Chemistry 1: Synthesis of methyl benzoate
3rd Organig Chemistry 2: Synthesis of methyl m-nitrobenzoate
4th Reaction by enzyme : hydrolysis by alpha-amylase
5th Oxidation and reduction: titrimetric determination by sodium thiosulfate
6th Adsorption in an equilibrium1: Adsorption of methylene blue on active carbon
7th Adsorption in an equilibrium2: Measurement of adsorbed methylene blue and its adsorption isotherm.
8th Mechanics, Oscillation 1: damped oscillation of mass point
9th Mechanisc, Oscillation 2: damped oscillation in an electric circuit
10th Mechanics, Oscillation 3: forced oscillation in an electric circuit
11th Vacuum engineering 1: Measurement of conductance
12th Vacuum engineering 2: Measurement of a vapor pressure curve
13th Vacuum engineering 3: Thin film formation by vapor deposition in a vacuum
14th Interview using submitted reports (extra optional day for experiments)
15th Interview using submitted reports (extra optional day for experiments)
