| This class will be held by two lecturers (Professor Akio Takemura, Professor Takanori Imai). Students who want to take a credit of this class should receive both lectures. The grade will be determined after averaging the evaluations by both lecturers. Prof. Takemura will give lectures on wood adhesion. The lecture by Prof. Imai is focused on the wood extractives. |

| To understand the basic knowledge of wood adhesion, and also of wood extractives. |

Prof. Takemura will give lectures on the wood adhesion. 1) Type and structure of wood adhesives 2) Characteristics and usage of wood adhesives 3) Mechanisms of wood adhesion 4) Production processes of wood adhesives Prof. Imai is going to give lectures on the wood extractives, and heartwood formation as follows: 1) Characteristics of extractives derived from trees 2) Distribution of extractives in trees (sapwood and heartwood) 3) Biosynthesis and accumulation of extractives during heartwood formation |
