Course description
In this course, we learn how to 'read', that is, 'interpret' images by analyzing films. After looking through the history of films briefly, we will compare several films based on Shakespeare’s dramas.
The main text we will discuss is Midsummer Night's Dream. We will also discuss about Romeo and Juliet to some extent.
Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps.
Expected Learning
By comparing films with drama texts as well as with stage performances, students can learn how to understand moving images from various points of view, and thus understand how technology is related with other fields especially with cultures of the time. The cultivation of the ability to examine matters from different angles is also expected.
