Course description
Based on fundamental physics learned at the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, we will introduce necessary contents for graduate students, regardless of major of each student, in the master’s program, including topics as a mechanical system view point, in response to the fundamental physics principle.
Dividing contents into four parts, we aim at the establishment of their fundamental understandings related to its based, advanced study (core and advanced subjects).
Expected Learning
Based on fundamental physics learned at the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, we will make graduate students understand fundamental laws of wave/diffusion, electromagnetics, dynamics of mass system and rigid, quantum mechanics through related topics on mechanical system, and also make them to solve related problems.
Course schedule
1st Analytical Mechanics 1 Lagrange's equations of motion.
2nd Analytical Mechanics 2 Hamiltonian
3rd Nonlinear Dynamical Systems 1 Branching and chaos
4th Nonlinear Dynamical Systems 2 Data analysis for chaotic phenomena
5th Statistical Mechanics 1 Fluctuation and diffusion
6th Statistical Mechanics 2 Gaussian or non-Gaussian
7th Exam for the first team Supplimentary for Analytical Mechanics
8th Vibration and Wave 1 Wave equation
9th Vibration and Wave 2 Dispersion relation, coupling and boundary
10th Electromagnetics 1 Maxwell equation
11th Electromagnetics 2 Electromagnetics of matter
12th Optics 1 Geometrical optics and imaging
13th Optics 2 Wave optics and interferometory
14th Exam for the second term Supplementary for wave
15th Taking look back
Prerequisites
It is advisable to take the subjects such as “Physics Basics”, “Physics Basics and Exercises,” “Statics,” “Dynamics” and “Electromagnetics.”

Assessment/Grading
We will grade the assignments, tests and reports in the first and second halves of lectures, and may consider an attendance situation in addition. Any comments and questions are welcome.
Message from instructor(s)
Although contents include the brush-up learned at the undergraduate course, we expect the students with a sense of tension because of new contents introduced.
