Course description |
Establishment of Recycling-based Society is one of the most important common proposition for us. This course gives an overview of plant biomass that can be used for materials and energy. Especially, it will be focused on lignocellulose which is the main component of plant cell walls. Students are required to learn how we produce materials and energy and which technologies should be used for sustainable development of us. |
Expected Learning |
Chemical components and characteristics of biomass resources including lignocelluloses Conversion technologies from biomasses to materials and energy Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps. (URL: https://www.tuat.ac.jp/campuslife_career/campuslife/policy/) |
Course schedule |
1st: Biotechnological conversion of biomass 2nd: Chemical conversion of biomass 3rd: Policies and social systems for biomass utilization (Part 1) 4th: Policies and social systems for biomass utilization (Part 2) 5th: Technical problems for biomass utilization 6th: Social problems for biomass utilization 7th: General discussion 8th: Roundup and exam |
Prerequisites |
In addition to 15 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts. |
