Course description |
In this course, synthesis of biologically active natural and unnatural compounds will be described. The topics are selected from the top journal in this field (JACS and Angewandte), and students will learn cutting edge science in this field. In the second half of this course, students will be required short presentation of natural product synthesis, which is given in the journal. Finally, elucidation of the mode of actions for the natural product will be discussed. |
Expected Learning |
Understand the synthetic strategy for various natural products. |
Course schedule |
1. Guidance 2-7. Natural products synthesis (Taxol, Macrolides, Steroids, Alkaloids I, Alkaloids II, Guanidine alkaloids) 8-14. Students presentation 15. Summary of the course (Chemical biology) |
Prerequisites |
A good understanding of synthetic organic chemistry. For example, a thorough understanding of the contents of medicinal chemistry (undergraduate lectures). |
