Course description
Fundamentals of fine and nanoparticles science and technology related with separation process will be introduced and explained. For the application of this technology, energy and environmental, materials processing are included.
Expected Learning
Students understand the fundamental of particle characterization and separation process, and background about the reason why the importance of separation process for production process.

Introduction of separation process in various industries, and fundamentals of fine and nanoparticle science and technology
1. Background and importance of “Separation process”
1.1. History of separation process in industry “Early phase”
/ Haber-Bosch process (Method of directly synthesizing ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen)
/ Gasoline production process
1.2. Four important “Pollution-related illnesses” in Japan and the contribution of separation process on the solution of this subjects

2. Fundamentals of particle behavior and characterization

3. Fundamentals of solid-gas, and solid-liquid separation by using mechanical and physical process
