Course description |
This course is divided into four themes, and lectures and exercises are conducted. Theme I: The Significance and Philosophy of Museum Education They learn about the significance and philosophy of educational activities in museums, and the present state and problems of museum education. Theme II: Education and Learning Knowledge Learn about the theory and history of education and learning from the viewpoint of teaching methods. Theme III: Characteristics and Practice of Museum Education They learn about the meaning and characteristics of learning in museums, the types of educational activities in museums, and the relationship between museums and school education (academic collaboration). Theme IV: Planning and Discussing a Learning Program (Exercises) After learning about practical methods such as planning, instructional planning, operation methods, and evaluation, each person sets his or her own theme and actually plans a pseudo learning program, develops teaching materials such as worksheets, and examines the ideal way of effective museum education through presentation and discussion. |
Expected Learning |
The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and methods of theory and practice that form the basis of educational activities in museums, and to cultivate basic skills for planning and managing educational activities in museums. The goal is to learn how to contribute to knowledge and practice of education and learning, which is the basis of museum education and educational activities, and then to actually develop a mock learning program. |

The 1st Lecture: Significance and Philosophy of Museum Education (1) The significance and philosophy of educational activities in museums are explained from the viewpoint of lifelong learning. The Second Lecture: Significance and Philosophy of Museum Education (2) Present state and problems of museum education are explained including actual condition of museum utilization. Part 3: Theory of Lecture Education The theory and history of the education are explained from the viewpoint of the education method. Part 4: Theory of Lecture and Learning Learning theory based on psychology is explained from the viewpoint of teaching method. Characteristics and Practice of the 5th Lecture Museum Education (1) The significance and characteristics of learning in museums are explained by comparing them with those in schools. Characteristics and Practice of the 6th Lecture Museum Education (2) Museum literacy and types of educational activities in museums are explained. The 7th Lecture Museum: Characteristics and Practice of Education (3) The ideal way and method of the curriculum of school education and the relation with school education (academic collaboration) are explained. Contents of each lecture: lectures, exercises, and practical training The 8th Lecture Museum: Planning and implementation of educational activities (1) With the idea of actually planning a learning program in mind, this paper explains methods contributing to practice such as planning, teaching plan and operation method, and evaluation. The 9th Lecture Museum: Planning and Implementation of Educational Activities (2) With the idea of actually planning a learning program in mind, this paper explains methods contributing to practice such as planning, teaching plan and operation method, and evaluation. (continuation of the 8th episode) Chapter 10 Planning of Exercise Learning Program (1) Practice setting themes, annual schedules, planning, and public relations. Chapter 11 Planning of Exercise Learning Program (2) Practice teaching planning, organization of learning activities, and evaluation. Chapter 12 Planning of Exercise Learning Program (3) Practice on developing teaching materials that contribute to learning activities. Announcement and discussion of the 13 Exercise Learning Program (1) Effective museum education is discussed through presentation and discussion of learning programs.
