Having studied the principles of the science education (legal grounds, purpose, contents, method, evaluation) in this lecture, a student will practically learn basic skills and knowledge required to be really in charge of a science classes. |
Expected Learning |
"(1) Understanding of principles of the science education and Japanese science education policy (especially content and meaning of the course of study) (2) Acquisition of practical skills required to conduct a science class through the learning of study patterns and guidance technologies. (3) To have the ability to make a teaching plan based on concrete teaching and instruction materials and conduct a class basing on the created teaching plan. " |
Course schedule |
"1. Legal grounds and course of study in science education To learn the course explaining legal grounds and curriculum standards used for teaching science in school education 2. History of the Japanese science education To learn about revisions of the course of study and changes of science education contents. 3. Experiment and observation in the science class To learn the significance of experiment and observation in science classes and experiment guidance and safety matters. 4. Practical development and making of teaching materials 1 Experimental calculation of the number of sodium chloride crystals. 5. Plan of the science class To learn about the structure and method of creation of the teaching plan. 6. Creation of the teaching plan and preparation for trial lesson Practical creation of the teaching plan. 7. Practical development and making of teaching materials 2 Experiment with properties of the sodium hydrogen carbonate (reaction formula and quantitative relations). 8. Practical development and making of teaching materials 3 Experiment with electric bread (properties of ionic crystals, Ohm's law). 9. Learning and teaching science Discuss the selection and arrangement of teaching materials through the practice lesson with the ”If free electrons were visible” hypothetic experiment as a subject. 10. Contents and systematic of the science education. Using textbooks and study course guidelines organize the learning content and relevance of the education from elementary to high school (group work). 11.
