Course description
This course provides students with fundamentals of organic chemistry.
Expected Learning
Learner who successfully complete this course will be able to:

Recognize the naming, properties, and reactions of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, and amines.
Describe related reactions of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, and amines.

1. Aldehydes and Ketones: naming, preparation.

2. Aldehydes and Ketones: mechanism of nuculeophilic addition reaction.

3. Aldehydes and Ketones: examples of nuculeophilic addition reactions.

4. Aldehydes and Ketones: examples of nuculeophilic addition reactions, conjugate nuculeophilic addition.

5. Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives: nomenclature.

6. Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives: nomenclature: properties and reactions of carboxylic acids.

7. Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives: reactions of carboxylic acids, nucleophilic acyl substitution reactions.

Prerequisites
In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.
It is desirable for students to have taken organic chemistry I and organic chemistry II.
