Course description
Because land use such as agricultural land and residential area is concentrated on a narrow flat area around the mountains on the severe natural environment such as steep topography and fragile geology, we have various natural disasters due to rainy season and typhoon, earthquake, volcanic eruption. Understand the conditions of sediment-related disasters in such mountains and surroundings is key for sustainable land management. In this class, we consider the importance of preserving mountainous areas not only from the mountains but from the viewpoint of forest and river management in the basin.
Expected Learning
Discussion on various sediment transport phenomena in mountainous areas from the viewpoint of basin, the theory and prevention technology of sediment-related disasters caused by it, conservation of sediment-related disaster prevention function of forest, conservation of mountain stream ecosystem.
