Course description |
This course is designed to improve a student's ability to discuss their research laboratory and present one research project from their chosen field of study. Students are expected to discuss their research projects in English with their classmates during every class. This course is offered as an advanced course in the English curriculum of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. |
Expected Learning |
1) Students should be able to speak about why and how they chose their research laboratories. 2) Students should be able to summarize some current research projects being conducted in their research laboratories. 3) Students should be able to discuss the components of a published research paper in a group setting. 4) Students should be able to present about a published research paper. Prerequisites |
This course carries 1 credit. In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, they are recommended to prepare for, and review, the classes using the textbook and the reference books, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class. Students must attend at least 2/3 of a course in order to receive credit for that course. If students do not fully attend the class for two times, it should be counted as one time of absence. |

Assessment/Grading |
Participation & Classwork (30%) - These categories are assessed by the level of participation in English discussions in each class (i.e. the discussion of homework assignments and in-class discussion topics) as well as the degree to which students actively work on their in-class assignments. Homework (20%) - This category is assessed on how completely, accurately, and timely students complete the homework assignments. Final Presentation (50%) - The presentation is assessed by a rubric provided by the teacher who grades how well you deliver your presentation and effectively communicate the contents of one research study. |
