Course description |
The course introduces you to basic German vocabulary and grammar. You will learn grammatical rules, to read and pronounce easy sentences, translate them into Japanese and write brief responses in German. After passing the final exam you are entitled to obtain a credit. Native speakers of German are not permitted to register for this course. This course is offered as the second part of the two-part German language course of the Global Language and Cultural Studies curriculum. |
Expected Learning |
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. exchange daily greetings, 2. pronounce words correctly, 3. read simple sentences in the present tense with the aid of a dictionary, and 4. obtain an image of foreign languages and cultures other than those of English-speaking countries. Prerequisites |
Courses I and II must be chosen from the same language for two credits (except Biotechnology and Life Science majors) Each unit requires approximately 45 mins each for preparation, and review/homework. Detailed instructions will be given by the instructor. In order to attain German skills in all of reading, writing, and speaking, it is recommended to take all three of German I, German II, and German for Intercultural Understanding for a total of three credits. |

Assessment/Grading |
Grade evaluation in online teaching requires attendance in all classes. Active participation in interactive learning, short tests and assignments, and the online exam will all be taken into consideration to determine the overall grade. Credit will be granted for academic achievement according to the standards set by the university. Overall evaluation is structured as follows: Participation (contributions in class) 15% Short tests and assignments 15% Final online exam 70% Based on the overall assessment, credit will be granted with the following evaluations: S: 90 points or higher A:80 points or higher, less than 90 points B:70 points or higher, less than 80 points C:60 points or higher, less than 70 points If offline classes become possible, the same standards will be applied. |
