Course description |
This lecture is an application of Organic Chemistry I to III (a series of basic lectures on organic chemistry that began in the first semester of the year), and focuses on items such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and vitamins derived from natural organic compounds. In order to understand this lecture, knowledge of various carbonyl compounds such as amides, esters and aldehydes, and knowledge of amines and phosphoric acids is required comprehensively. To prepare and review the next/last lecture are strongly desired. This subject will be explained in a lecture format using PowerPoint. In addition, supplementary prints will be distributed in each lecture. This subject is classified into "Specialized Subjects III", which is a specialized subject of the Department, and is an Organic Chemistry subject recommended by the Department. class code:g3nj7iz |
Expected Learning |
1. To understand properties, reactions and synthetic methods of amines. 2. To understand properties, reactions and synthetic methods of bio-related substances (sugars, peptides, nucleic acids, vitamins). 3. To understand metabolic pathways from the viewpoint of the organic chemistry. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps. |

Prerequisites |
This course is classified in technology speciality courses and provides one of the department-recommended organic chemistry subjects. Require preparation and review hours recommended by this university along with school hours (30 hours). Do preparation and review using textbooks and handouts. It is desirable for students to have already studied about organic chemistry I to III. |
Required Text(s) and Materials |
Paula Y. Bruce, “Organic Chemistry 7th Edition”ISBN978-4-7598-1585-6 |
References |
General biochemical textbooks: e.g., Voet’s basic biochemistry |
Assessment/Grading |
Grades are given based 50 % on the score of midterm examination and 50% on the score of midterm examination. However, the evaluation method (mainly the weight of the score) may change depending on the understanding of the students. Mid-term exam (50%): Evaluate understanding of methods for synthesizing amines, heterocyclic compounds, carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides and proteins, reactions, knowledge about stereochemistry, application of knowledge, and fundamental reaction examples. Final exam (50%): Evaluate whether you understand the knowledge about bio-related substances handled in the 1st to 14th lectures and the catalytic reaction and metabolic pathways of the bio-organic substances that occur in the body. |
Message from instructor(s) |
Since this course supplies advanced contents of organic chemistry I to III, students should check the uncomprehended contents in organic chemistry I to III. As preparation, it is recommended that you read the text book and solve the exercises. |
