This course focuses on as follows, 1) understanding the principle, the apparatus, and the ability and limitation of evaluation methods for structural materials in real world, 2) presentation practice with engineering terms and style |
Expected Learning |
Participants wil be expected to achieve followings; 1) obtain and understand the basic knowledge of behavior and effect of defects 2) obtain and understand the basic knowledge of typical evaluation methods for structural materials 3) understand the basic consideration on presentation for plain understanding See the Curriculum maps. |

Week-1 : guidance and introduction Week-2 : effect of defects Week-3 : crack initiation / propagation and fatigue Week-4 : detection of surface defects Week-5 : background of non-destructive evaluation using radiation Week-6 : detection of internal defects by x-ray Week-7 : detection of internal defects by ultrasonic and CT-method Week-8 : (presentation by participants) measurement of deformation and loading Week-9 : (presentation by participants) high temperature test, impact test Week-10 : (presentation by participants) creep test, corrosion test Week-11 : (presentation by participants) electron microscope, chemical component analysis Week-12 : (presentation by participants) measurement of deformation and loading Week-13 : (presentation by participants) ductile / brittle fracture, fractgraphy Week-14 : (presentation by participants) lattice parameter measurement, residual stress measurement Week-15 : (presentation by participants) Weibull distribution, hardness measurement |
Prerequisites |
none In addition to 30hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the text specified below. |
