Course description
The basic ideas of economics are worth knowing no matter what research subject students choose. First, the teacher will explain the basic ideas of economics. Then select a topic from environmental issues in Japan each time, and hold discussions based on the student's presentation.

Course schedule
First, the teacher explains the basics of economics.
(The following contents are subject to change)

1 Introduction: Basics of National Accounts
2 High Economic Growth and Industrial Structural Changes
3 Introduction to Keynesian theory
4 World Structure after World War II: East-West Conflict and Cold War
5 World Structure after World War II: North-South Problem
6 Postwar Japan's Political Structure
7 World After the End of the Cold War

After that, we will choose topics from Japanese environmental issues and hold discussions based on student presentations.

・ Food contamination cases and medical incidents (arsenic milk case, Kanemi Yusho case, thalidomide case, etc.)
・ Pollution litigation (Japanese court system, issues of pollution trial, Itai-itai disease, Niigata Minamata disease, Kumamoto Minamata disease)
・ Air pollution problem and pollution health damage compensation system
・ Water resources problem (mechanism of water rights, dam development and its criticism)
・ Globalization and global environmental issues (climate change, biodiversity, genetic resources, etc.)
・ How to deal with the huge risk of nuclear power
・ Agriculture and environment

Finally, make a general summary.
