Course description |
Towards the resolution of various environmental problems, environmental engineering is scientific learning based on concepts of material balance and energy balance with the transport phenomenon approach. The course consists of wastewater engineering and general environmental engineering issues. The former topics will be given by Prof. Terada and the latter by Prof Riya. |
Expected Learning |
Students would understand the concept of material and energy balance and the ideas and concrete measures necessary for a sustainable society. Learning risk assessment and management for chemical substances would help risk-based thinking and management by themselves for chemicals they will handle in the future. |
Course schedule |
1st week: Wastewater treatment engineering-Introduction (Terada) 2nd week: Wastewater treatment engineering-Wastewater constituents (Terada) 3rd week: Environmental ethics and content to be learned in EE (Riya) 4th week: Wastewater treatment engineering-Physicochemical processes (Terada) Periodic report 5th week: Lessons learned from Minamata disease (Riya) 6th week: Environmental Microbiology (Terada) 7th week: Activated sludge(Terada) 8th week: Wastewater treatment engineering-C, N and P transformations of microorganisms(Terada) Periodic report 9th week: Waste management in Japan (Riya) 10th week: Risk assessment of radioactive substances (Riya) Periodic report Final examination |
