Course description |
Recently, almost all mechanical products and systems come to have embedded electronics to attain at least some level of autonomy. Sensors are the indispensable components in such automatization of mechanical systems. Students will learn various sensors in this course. The topics covered in this course are optical sensors and mobile robot olfaction. Basic of quantum electronics that are necessary to understand working principles of optical sensors are also dealt in this course. Other types of sensors will be covered in Advanced Environmental Mechanical Systems III. The topics covered in the course include: - Energy band theory - Optical sensors - Mobile robot olfaction This course is included in the Specialized Applied Courses of the curriculum of the Department of Bio-Functions and Systems Science. |
Expected Learning |
Students who successfully completed this course will be able to explain the working principles of popular sensors and to select appropriate sensors for their own experiments. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps. |

Prerequisites |
Basic knowledge on electronics. In addition to 16 hours of study in the classes, students are recommended to use at least the standard amount of time specified by the University for preparing for and reviewing the lecture contents using the lecture handouts and the references specified below. |

Quiz posted on Moodle after each class (40%). Short paper (60%). Questions are designed to evaluate whether the students have acquired correct understandings of the materials dealt in the course and can clearly explain them by their own words. |
