Course description
Students improve their specialties and practical experiences by applying their knowledge obtained through lectures and training in the WISE Program and research activities to the real spots in the society or the sites of social implementation of research outcome (such as commercialization or connection to the technology extension, etc.) in Japan and overseas.
More specifically, students should identify the problems at sites, examine the techniques for solving those problems, gather the necessary specialized knowledge and related information from adjacent domains, and acquire practical skills in teamwork and in communication with stakeholders for problem solving.
By building up practical abilities and experience as engineers and researchers, students gain confidence to exhibit their real abilities while making use of the knowledge they have each learned, and this engenders flexibility enabling response suited to the situation. In addition, by recognizing how the findings they have developed in their own research are used on-site, students learn things like vision to help spark innovation.

Students are allowed to apply for credits (transferring) to this course based on their own activities. When students took the equivalent courses in their or other departments, or when students conducted activities equivalent to this course, in terms of contents, hours, and desired goals and competencies, they may apply for credit transferring to this course. For details, please refer to the Credit Transfer Application Guidelines provided separately.

Expected Learning
Learn practical skills and techniques, integrate actual experience with specialized knowledge and research results learned at the university, and clarify sense of purpose toward specialized knowledge and research through training domestic and overseas. As specific goals to be achieved:
1 The ability to elucidate one's own problem and pursue research "seeds" based on specific cases where knowledge or techniques learned in pre-learning, previous learning or research, are used in the field domestic and overseas.
2 Raise awareness of safety and the environment at front-line sites domestic and overseas, and learn from experience about conduct of research (e.g., research ethics, morals, and sense of responsibility) and the research needs required in actual society.
3 Acquire communication abilities, manners, and other attributes for supporting teamwork with members having diverse differences in culture, age, etc.
4 The ability to bring together learning material as a report, etc., and properly make a presentation or respond to questions.
