Course description |
This lecture provides students with the basic, clinical and applied knowledge of fish diseases according to the Veterinary Medicine Model Core Curriculum established in 2012, and to the Guideline of the National Examination in Veterinary Medicine established in 2016. All lectures will be distance lectures this year, and PPT slide files with commentary audio will be viewed. |
Expected Learning |
General Fish Diseases : understanding and explaining classification, anatomy and physiology, husbandry and health management, and self-defense mechanisms of fish. Special Topics in Fish Diseases : Understanding and explaining environmental and nutritional disorders, tumors, infectious diseases caused by virus, bacteria, fungi, protozoan, myxozoan and metazoan parasites. Course schedule |
Week 1 Classification of fish including the details of valuable and/or culturing fish species. Week 2 Anatomy and physiology of fish #1: gross features, skin, scales, bony tissues and musculatures. Week 3 Anatomy and physiology of fish #2: gills, circulatory system, hematopoietic tissues, blood. Week 4 Anatomy and physiology of fish #3: digestive system, swim bladder, kidney. Week 5 Anatomy and physiology of fish #4: endocrine system, nervous system, sensory organs. Aquaculture and fisheries science. Week 6 Self-defense mechanisms, relating regulations, animal welfare. Week 7 Sedation/anesthesia, environmental disorders, nutritional disorders, neoplastic lesions. Week 8 Infectious diseases #1: RNA viral pathogens and diseases. Week 9 Infectious diseases #2: DNA viral pathogens and diseases. Week 10 Infectious diseases #3: Gram-negative bacterial pathogens and diseases. Week 11 Infectious diseases #4: Gram-positive bacterial pathogens and diseases. Week 12 Infectious diseases #5: Fungal pathogens and diseases. Week 13 Infectious diseases #6: Protozoan and myxozoan pathogens and diseases. Week 14 Infectious diseases #7: Large parasites (monogenea, digenea, nematode, cestode, acanthocephalan, crustacean) infestation/infection. Week 15 A review of fish diseases, a final examination. |
Prerequisites |
It is desirable that students should have basic knowledge of anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology and microbiology. In addition to the 30 hours of class time and the time required to create assignments, refer to the distributed lecture materials and reference books to prepare and review according to the standard number of hours of the university. |
