Course description
Modern agriculture is being transformed in diverse ways by changing values. In this lecture, the current situation of Japanese agriculture will be explained. The lecture will cover the following topics: global agricultural production; global food supply and demand; food, agriculture, and rural policies; the development process of postwar agricultural policy; recent trends in agriculture; and the potential and prospects for Japanese agriculture in the future.
Expected Learning
The achievement criterion for this course is to understand the basic knowledge and concepts of situations essential for understanding contemporary agriculture (e.g., the role of food and agriculture from the perspective of urban residents, agriculture and food policy, and domestic and international situations under the WTO regime).

This lecture is one of the undergraduate specialized courses. Therefore, this lecture welcomes students who are interested in social scientific analysis based on the characteristics of food, agriculture, and rural areas.
