Course description |
Students will learn the basic vocabulary and grammar and the basic communicative skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of Spanish. Toward this goal, students need to take both “Spanish I” and “Spanish II” in the same year. Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. have basic conversations concerning daily life. 2. read and write elementary sentences based on the solid lexical and grammatical knowledge of Spanish. 3. have deeper knowledge of the Spanish language and the Hispanic world. Week 1 Lesson 7: Present indicative of regular verbs. Cardinal numbers(101-999,999). Week 2 Lesson 7: Expressions on frequency. Talking about a weekly schedule. Week 3 Lesson 8: Reflexive verbs (direct an indirect). Week 4 Lesson 8: Reflexive verbs (impersonal constructions). Relatives. Talking about daily activities. Week 5 Lesson 7,8: Mini quiz. Review. Week 6 Lesson 9: Verbs “saber” & “conocer”. Direct and indirect object pronouns. Week 7 Lesson 9: Affirmative inperatives. Prepositional pronouns. Talking about skills and experiencies. Week 8 Lesson 10 Verb “gustar”. Week 9 Lesson 10: Talking about likes and dislikes. Week 10 Lesson 9,10: Miniquiz. Week 11 Lesson 11: Past participles. Present perfect indicative. Prerequisites |
It is desirable to take the classes of “Spanish II” and “Spanish for Intercultural Understsanding” to acquire comprehensively the basic skill of the language. Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes in preparing for each class, and another 45 minutes in completing assignments and revising the class. |

Assessment/Grading |
Class participation will be assessed by active contribution to class activities (15%). Mini quizzes will be given after finishing every two or three lessons to assess students’ communicative skill (15%). In Final exam students must show that they have learned interactive skills based on proper understanding of the Hispanic culture that are required to learn through the course (70%). |
