Course description |
Even if you are asked the question "what kind of study is Philosophy?", you will only have some vague impression. It is unavoidable. It is because the object of philosophy has changed in the transition of the times (Nature, Cosmos, God, Human beings, Society, Freedom…), and has not been decided as one until now. That is, the philosophers have gradually changed the inheritance thoughts at the former time into something responding to the request at the time, and handed the batons over to philosophers at the following time. By such the historical practice of philosophy which have established the new view of society, human, and history, we are able to enjoy the freedom. For instance, It will think taking about the natural science related to everyone who belongs to a science faculty department.The natural science was born by benefit of modern scientific revolution, but the scientific revolution became possible by conversion of a sense of values by philosophy. Nowadays, when dealing with a natural science, we have to consider the social meaning of our study. Scientific development can't miss free idea. And, the time when you should consider the meaning of working as a resercher and a menber of society may come. So, in this lecture, by exploring the fun of philosophy with the theme of "What is science?" "What is society?" "What is freedom?" "What is the meaning of working", would like to think about philosophy are related how deeply the natural science and various problems of modern society. For the above reasons, this lecture is offered as a general education subject (Kyosei Humanities Social Sciences B "Human and Culture"). |

Assessment/Grading |
Grades are given based 60 % on the final report, and 40 % on contribution during the classes and comment papers. In each lecture, I will introduce the related books and materials. |
