Course description |
This 2-credit course provides students with planning and designing engineering for a forestry engineer. It will address the engineering on forest science and ability as a engineer that are part of the Forest Science Program. The topics covered are forest road design, road network design and design of yarding cable. |
Expected Learning |
Read topography on geographic maps. Describe quantitative indicators for topography. Describe fundamental dynamics. Calculate scientific computing. |
Course schedule |
This practical training is divided into I. Forest Road Design, II. Forest Road Network Planning, III. Design of a Cable Yarding system. I. Forest road design Field training and outside work (FM Karasawa-yama: 5 days and 4 nights) Point: Design of forest roads in mountainous areas, acquisition of surveying techniques Day 1: Survey and prediction Day 2: Plane surveying (route surveying), plan drawing, design (setting and driving curved piles BC, MC, EC using central longitudinal method), pile driving (BM, BP, EP, No, + pile driving, using declination method for driving piles on curves) Day 3: Level surveying, longitudinal design (BP, No, +, EP for various piles), planning slope setting Day 4 Cross-sectional survey, planning slope and construction base drawing using earthwork ruler 5th day: Practice of earth-moving machine operation, Study of productivity by single line circulation system Point:Learn how to organize and optimize design drawings and cost estimates based on mountainous area data. On-campus work 1., 2. Making and completion of plan view, longitudinal section view (setting of planned slope) and cross section view (construction base view) 3., 4. Soil distribution planning: 1) Soil volume calculation sheet 2) Preparation of soil volume diagram (flow curve, mass curve) 3) Development of parallel lines for earthwork, diversion, and transportation of embankment. 4) Greening area table 5) Road surface area. 5. Calculation method: Procedures for establishing forest roads, unit price list, detailed list (1) Earthwork (cut soil: soil mixed with leachate, rock excavation method, fill: diverted fill, transported fill, pure fill). 6. (2) Earthwork: cut and fill, greening (invasive species problem), embankment (soil feathering) 7. Retaining wall (development), Roadbed and surface engineering, Bearing capacity. 8. Drainage facilities (ditches, surface drains, culverts: foundation, materials, properties of concrete) 9. Construction breakdown table, construction summary table (labor, materials, efficiency of mechanization), cover sheet (forward slope, reverse slope, construction unit price) II. Forest Road network planning 10. Deciphering topography 11. Evaluation of terrain 12. Road network layout 13. Evaluation of placement results III. Design of a cable yarding syste. 14. Line selection, Tension calculation 15. Load calculation, Examination of safety factor |
