Course description
This course aims to develop listening, grammar and reading skills with TOEFL ITP, which is a test for non-native learners of English who want to enter universities especially in the United States. Through the TOEFL exercises, students are expected to gain knowledge of English for academic purposes, which will be indispensable for their academic research. They will also learn about college life in other countries. This course is mandatory for first-year students as an introduction to the English curriculum of the University.
Expected Learning
1) Students will understand the format of each section: listening, structure and reading, by answering various questions of the TOEFL ITP test.
2) Students will gain the skills to understand conversations and lectures, understand the structure of academic English, and read passages about various academic topics
3) Students will learn about how these skills are combined with other skills such as writing and speaking, and how to integrate them for their future academic activities.

Prerequisites
This course carries 1 credit. In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to study independently with Academic Express 3, an e-learning system available outside the university, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University. All students on this course are expected to take the TOEFL-ITP test at the end of June. Also students must attend at least 2/3 of the course in order to receive credit. If you are late for the class twice, it will be counted as one time of absence.

Assessment/Grading
In order to measure how well you performed each learning outcome, you will be evaluated by the following criteria:

Class Contribution (20%) Assignments and tests (50%) TOEFL ITP test (30%)

More than 6 absences lead to no credit and 2 tardy arrivals are equivalent to 1 absence.
Your TOEFL ITP score converts to 0-30 out of 30 points.
No less than 60 points in total are the prerequisite for your credit.
