Course description
The course introduces you to basic Chinese vocabulary and grammar. You will learn the laws of grammar, read and speak easy sentences, translate them into Japanese and write brief responses in Chinese. After passing the final exam you are entitled to obtain a credit.
Native speakers of Chinese are not permitted to register for this course.

This course is offered as the first part of the two-part Chinese language course of the Global Language and Cultural Studies.
Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. exchange daily greetings
2. pronounce words correctly
3. read simple sentences with the aid of a dictionary
4. have a wide range of interests in Chinese and Chinese culture.

Assessment/Grading
The roll will be called every week. You must not absent yourself more than 4 times.
The final grade will be assessed by the following criteria:
(i) Class participation and results of small tests ― 30%
(ii) Result of the final examination ― 70%
The grade evaluation in this online class is premised on all attendances, and comprehensively evaluates the attitude to learn, quizzes, report, and online tests. Standard study time set by the University is required to get the grade. The rate of evaluation is as follows: General score: 10%, quizzes and assignment test: 20%, and online final test: 70%.
