Course description
Based on the elementary grammar and reading, this course is designed to develop a higher level of proficiency in oral and written communication.
Emphasis is on the intercultural understanding in Spanish.

In each class, through the comprehension of the textbook, web radio news, and magazine articles, students approach the reality of the Spanish speaking people are living at present.

This course is offered to advance students' intercultural understanding applying the knowledge and skills acquired in Spanish I and II.

Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. read Spanish texts on the contemporary Hispanic world with the aid of a dictionary.
2. comprehend spoken Spanish on the contemporary Hispanic world.
3. present an aspect of the contemporary Hispanic world.

Prerequisites
Students are required to take Spanish for beginners I & II to take full advantage of this class.
Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes in preparing for each class, and another 45 minutes in completing assignments and revising the class.

Instructions on the references will be provided in the first session.
Assessment/Grading
Class participation will be assessed by active contribution to class activities such as reading of materials and previous research on the topic (60%).
In Final exam each student must hand in a research paper on a theme concerning the Hispanic countries (40%).
