Course description
You can understand the characteristics and reactions of materials through chemistry. The properties of materials are based on the properties of constituting atoms and their reactions, i.e. bonding. In this lecture, the structure and periodical characteristics of atoms, several chemical bonding between atoms, and reaction and properties of several inorganic materials are explained.
This course is a part of inorganic and analytical chemistry courses classified as specialized basic subjects in the Department of Applied Chemistry.

Class code: wpfbyus
Expected Learning
Understand the structures of atoms and molecules, and the structure and reactions of liquids and solids from the view point of inorganic chemistry.

For the curriculum policy perspective of this course, please refer to the curriculum map in the Faculty of Engineering Course Guide.

Assessment/Grading
Standard study time set by our university is required to get the grade. The rate of evaluation is as follows.
Class performance/Exercise/homework: 60%, final exam: 40% are totally evaluated. Questions are designed to assess the understanding of and the ability to explain the topics dealt in the lectures.

Grade will be given according to the following criteria: S: ≧90 points, A: 90> and ≧80 points, B: 80> and ≧70 points, C: 70> and ≧60 points.

Past grade distribution
2021 S: 11%; A: 50%; B: 26%; C: 2%; D: 0%
Message from instructor(s)
Chemistry is not "Memorization", but is structured and systematized area with quantum theory as a background. Based on this recognition, we aim to acquire basic concepts and principles that are indispensable not only for inorganic chemistry but also for chemistry subjects that discuss the characteristics of each atom, molecule or ion.
Depending on the degree of understanding of the students in the lecture and the results of the exams, exercises or homeworks, some of the contents may be repeated. So, sometimes it can not be done as described in [Course Schedule]. Then the schedule will be flexibly changed.
