Course description |
Molecular biology II is the advanced course of molecular biology I. With the comparison to the prokaryotes on the following basic aspects, the students will learn 1) the structure of genome and gene, 2) DNA replication, transcription, and translation, and 3) the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes. This course will further help the students to understand the molecular biology of the cells containing cancer-related genes. Class code: pgvurqs |
Expected Learning |
By the end of the course, the students should have to understand the biological phenomenon of eukaryotes on the molecular level. |
Course schedule |
Unit 1 Introduction Unit 2 Structure of chromosome Unit 3 Transcription Unit 4, 5 Regulation of gene expression I, II Unit 6 Topics Unit 7 Mid-term examination Unit 8 Replication and repair Unit 9,10 Translation I,II Unit 11 Molecular mechanism of signal transduction Unit 12, 13 Molecular Biology of cancer I,II Unit 14 Summary Unit 15 Final examination |
Prerequisites |
The students should have already completed the basic molecular biology and molecular biology 1. The students who are taking the biochemical 1 & 2 would be preferred. |

Assessment/Grading |
The students will be evaluated by their performances on the reports, the mid-term examinations, and the final examinations. |
Message from instructor(s) |
The students will expand their knowledge on molecular biology, if they well understand the gene regulation in prokaryotes which were taught on Molecular biology I. Furthermore, I hope the students can always explain what they have learned in this course generally in their own words. |
