Course description |
Because of frequent occurrence of serious accidents in our daily life and dishonest acts in research activities due to lack of the ethic awareness, the education of engineering ethics becomes more and more important these years. Moreover, in order to correspond to the problems like global warming and aging society, the ethics awareness of university students of science and technology should be improved. In this lecture, the relationship between the technology and our society, the technicians' responsibilities to the society, actions that we should take, and important factors in engineering ethics will be explained and discussed. This subject corresponds to the specialized basic subject of the curriculum. In addition, since the lecture charge of the subject has experience in charge of planning and implementation of research and development, and organizational management in a company, more practical lesson can be carried out based on his own experiences and various cases. |
Expected Learning |
Arrival criteria: 1. Understand the relationship among science and technology, engineers and society. 2. Be aware of the responsibilities of engineers to society. 3. Define the actions to be taken to fulfill social responsibility. 4. Understand the importance of safety and security efforts and consideration of the global environment. 5. 1. Guidance Importance of engineering ethics Current state of engineering ethics education Aim, purpose, structure, and scholastic evaluation of the lecture 2. Consideration of engineering ethics based on the different results of the nuclear power plant and the bullet train in the Great East Japan Earthquake 3. Dishonest acts in research activities 4. Lesson and prevention measures of dishonest acts in research activities 5. Comparison of the space shuttle Challenger and Citicorp Center 6. Profit and life of consumers Ford Pinto accident, Mitsubishi Fuso truck accident, etc. 7. Intermediate exercises: Investigation and analysis of ethics cases 8.
