Course description
Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) is indispensable to our life and an industrial activity.
In this course, lectures are given related to SEE which harmonized with environment about the following subjects aiming at construction on the irreplaceable earth.
Sustainable energy situation in Japan and in the world, the situation picture of the sustainable energy in today's and future, power deregulation, a complete level of voltages in entire power system in Japan from the generation to the demand, present measure situation about energy saving in residential, commercial(including business-use building) and industrial sectors, application of the intelligent technique to SEE, renewable energies including wind and solar power, and finally micro grids and smart grids.
This lecture is based on the business experience of the Professor Deng. The nature of this subject was said to be the most important task of sustainable energy. In this lecture some practical experiences are taken into examples.
Expected Learning
By attending this course, you will be able to learn about the sustainable energy and power systems, also able to analyze the energy calculation, and day-to-day operation planning which is generally done by power companies every day.
Course schedule
The sustainable energy which plays an important role in supplying good quality of power (stable and reliable) is regarded as a large-scale system which consists of power generation transmission, substations and distribution equipment. In this course you can study and consider problems in entire of this large-scale sustainable energy.
The course aim is to understand the basic characteristics and structure of sustainable energy, and study the planning and operation and control of this system.
This course consists of the following contents.

(1) Definition of sustainable energy; Instruction on power system
(2) Outline of sustainable energy planning, operation, and control
(3) Characteristics and features of sustainable energy
(4) Active power and frequency control
(5) Hydro energy
(6) Geothermal energy and solar energy
(7) Biomass energy and wind power energy
(8) Fuel cell power generation and semiconductor power
(9) Micro grid
(10) Sustainable Energy load forecasting and supply-demand balance planning
(11) Power deregulation; Economy load dispatching of power generation equipment
(12) Power transmission, distribution and substation
(13) Sustainable energy security and reliability analysis
(14) Application of AI methods in sustainable energy
(15) Summarization: prepare for exam
Prerequisites
I want you to study some reference books about the optimization techniques and renewable energy resources.

Participation:10%, Report: 30%, Test: 30%, Final Exam: 30%

The grade evaluation in this online class is premised on all attendances, and comprehensively evaluates the attitude to learn, quizzes, report, and online tests. Standard study time set by the our university is required to get the grade. The rate of evaluation is as follows: Participation:10%, quizzes 30%, assignment test: 30%, and online test: 30%. Grade will be given according to the following criteria by comprehensive evaluation: S: 90 points or more, A: 80 or more and less than 90 points, B: 70 or more and less than 80 points, C: 60 or more and less than 70 points.
