Course description
The purpose of this lecture is to provide students with the knowledge needed to understand 1) the soil function, 2) soil nutrient dynamics in based on the mechanisms, and 3) ecology and management in horticultural crop production

To discuss the concrete soil resource management and cultivation techniques for sustainable agriculture, we will lecture 1) soil function as a basic ecosystem services, 2) characteristics of nutrient dynamics in soil ecosystems, and 3) effects of cultivation environment on horticultural crops, especially focused on fruit trees.
Expected Learning
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
1. Explain/discussion the soil function and nutrient dynamics in order to achieve the sustainable land managements,
2. Explain/discussion the techniques of horticultural crop production.

Prerequisites
We recommend that the student had already get the "Soil Science" and "Horticulture" class at an undergraduate level.
In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.
