Course description |
The purpose of this course is to understand agricultural production and its related social conditions as well as the characteristics of agriculture which is based on the relationship with regions where it stands and living organisms. Given these understandings, we proceed with discussion on sustainable agriculture from multiple perspectives. A student is requested to acquire necessary knowledge and foster its application skills such as conducting research by him/herself. In the class, first we discuss the general situations and specific examples of global and Japanese agriculture as well as agricultural and rural issues therein, focusing on Tomioka-town, Fukushima, case by the instructor. A student is also requested to visit this site, or follow the track from the starting point of the case study till the one to complete the academic paper. |

Course schedule |
This course will be conducted through face-to-face in class since the expected number of enrollments is small. However, depending on the number or other factors, classes may be offered via online. For more details, please reconfirm at the meeting to be held in January, 2023 and in mails from the instructor, or check the contents in the Google Classroom for this subject: "aytpl4l". In the class, exploring the discussion on the historical changes of the agricultural actors will be stated, followed by the significance of family farmings advocated by the United Nations. Next, we will explain eligible actors of agriculture on the specific contexts of the case. The class schedule is as follows. Contents 1. Class orientation (held in January, 2023, in advance) 2. Historical issues on family farmings under the subject "who is in charge of agriculture 3. - 6. Conducting a field research 7. Constructing an academic writing 8. Discussion based on the assignment |
Prerequisites |
In addition to 15 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and review the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University, using the materials as well as the references specified below. |
