Course description |
This lecture contains a class by teacher with experiences of work abroad in institute. A process of establishment of international environmental monitoring program will be lectured. Furthermore, the effects of environmental stresses such as gaseous air pollutants, PM2.5 and acid deposition on plants and its mechanisms will be lectured. A teacher who has practical experience outside academia teaches this class. Dr. Tarao worked at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a part-time specialist and a member of investigation teams. A part of his course is based on his experience at JICA. |
Expected Learning |
Learners who successfully complete this course are expected to acquire mathematical skill and mind which are indispensable to understand and solve environmental and resource problems. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma policy: See the curriculum maps. https://www.tuat.ac.jp/campuslife_career/campuslife/policy/ |
Course schedule |
Learners will work on exercises of textbook prior to the class, and checking answers and discussion are done during the class. Namely, without preparation for the class, you cannot keep up with the class. Learners will present the content of original paper concerning "plants and environment", and discussion will be done during the class. 1. Warm-up 2. Fermi problem (1) 3. Fermi problem (2) 4. Basics of presentation 9. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (1) 10. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (2) 11. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (3) 12. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (4) 13. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (5) 14. Presentation on the effects of environmental stresses on plants (6) 15. Summary of lecture |
Prerequisites |
Prior to each class, participants read some sections of textbook which are assigned, and work on exercises of each section. The participants should read original papers concerning "plants and environment" and be ready for the presentation. In completing this course, students will spend the standard amount of time as specified by the University. |
Required Text(s) and Materials |
